Singing For Restorative Wellbeing with Sanskrit shlokas
In this singing course I will teach you the ancient Vedic shlokas in Sanskrit, which are short hymns that have been embellished in a series of raags (melodic framework) by the late Dr Arun Apte (registered medical practitioner in music therapy as certified by State of West Bengal). Each shloka corresponds to a subtle energy centre in the body, also known in Sanskrit as chakra. Undertaking the music therapy course in 2007 at Vaitarna Music Academy in India, I was impressed by the healing nature of sound vibration and created this online course Singing For Restorative Wellbeing (SFRW) with the same material I learned in order to share this deep musical experience that aims to bring about inner balance and a peaceful mindset in both the singer and listener.
NOTE: Videos are taught in a call-and-repeat approach, where I sing and the student may pause the video to repeat the melody. This call-and-repeat method was how I learnt the shlokas and indeed how most students of Indian Classical music learn from their teacher. However, there is a workbook PDF provided with all the course material including shloka lyrics, English summary of meaning of the shloka, raag composition and a notation chart for each shloka.
Once enrolled you will receive access to all the training videos, workbook (PDF) as well as a full length performance of each shloka. You will be asked to join a exclusive SFRW Telegram group so we can exchange updates and share progress throughout the course.
